I must confess that I only cut my hair once or twice a year, and it's not something I enjoy.
If it's anything more than a trim, I always feel like I leave the salon with some form of mullet. Hence why my hair was quite long for so many years. I was just too nervous to cut it. It also didn't help that I had terrible hair throughout my teenage years. If you weren't lucky enough to witness this in person, I'll save proof of it for Throwback Thursdays. After the trauma of having bad hair for so many years, I just grew it long and kept it that way.
I'm also super cheap when it comes to my hair. I absolutely hate paying for hair cuts. I don't know what it is; I have no problem paying for other things, but when it comes to my hair, I just think it's a waste of money. When I think of getting my hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks, all I can think about is how I could use that money towards a flight somewhere. At one point, I even convinced my friend to trim my hair. The only scissors he had at his house were from his nail clipper set, and I was pleasantly surprised that they did the job just fine. I guess you can see where my my priorities are...
Last Christmas, god only knows what came over me, and I spontaneously decided I needed a change. I cut about 10 inches off, and walked out of the salon with a mullet-esque bob. I liked it for about a month and then was itching for my long hair again. It's been over a year now, and my hair is slowly but surely growing back, albeit with a lot more greys...
Maybe it was the February blues, or maybe it was the fact that I hadn't gotten a hair cut since May, but something needed a change.
I was brushing my teeth and this hair was staring back at me, screaming for some attention. It was clearly time to tame the mane.
(Don't worry, I hate selfies just as much as you do, but if I'm going to show off my new 'do,
you're going to have to put up with a before and after picture. I also have no idea why I look so tanned in this picture.
Believe me, I'm not. I blame it on the orange shirt.)
So, without further ado....
Ta-da!
Whaddya think?!
I had some bangs cut and my hairdresser convinced me to get some extensions. You like?!
....
Yeah. effing. right.
Yes, I did get my hair cut, but my friend's new roommate coincidentally moved in with quite the collection of wigs.
This particular one's a beauty, ain't it?
So, here it really is. New side-bangs and all. There's only a minimal mullet, depending on how it's styled.

I think it's your fear of being mistaken for a boy with a bowl cut for so many years!! hee hee!
ReplyDeleteI think you're bang on...

Thanks! For me, it was just so much easier to keep it long and just trim the ends when I needed to, without going and getting a real hair cut. It's too much work right now!
DeleteAbsolutely ! I remember those days!,ha!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! New haircuts are always a great plan...but I just graduated from law school in May, so I feel your time-crunch pain in a major way. Hang in there!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie! Congrats on graduating, looking forward to checking out your blog.
